Responding to the nurses' strike in Northern Ireland, Ed Davey, Lib Dem Acting Leader, said:
“Waiting times in Northern Ireland are now the longest of anywhere in the UK, putting patient safety at risk. Overworked and underpaid nurses have been put in an impossible situation by Ministers."
“The Conservatives have ignored years of repeated warnings of the consequences of failing to restore the Northern Ireland Assembly."
“The Conservatives must stop ignoring the nurses’ strike in Northern Ireland and urgently work to restore power-sharing in Northern Ireland. "
“The reasons nurses are taking radical strike action in Northern Ireland are mirrored across every part of the UK. Brexit is set to make the situation worse by making it more difficult for nurses coming from the EU to the UK. The Liberal Democrats will continue to oppose all forms of Brexit and support a genuinely large rise in funding for our NHS.”
