People are struggling to afford good homes in the right location: the possibility of owning a home seems remote for many people; the private rental market is expensive and insecure; and there are not enough homes for social rent to meet demand.
Many young people, and parents, now face the reality of living under the same roof for far longer than was once the case. Only by tackling the under supply of property can we address this issue, which is why we pledge to build 300,000 new homes a year. We will also reform local council powers to ensure empty properties are put to use and made available within the property market.
Paul pledges to build new eco-city developments outside of current urban areas with new infrastructure. We'll build new houses to zero-carbon standards and cut fuel bills through a ten-year programme, to be introduced by the Liberal Democrats, to reduce energy consumption in all the UK’s buildings. Paul also pledges to ensure there is more affordable housing for first time buyers within the constituency. It is essential that we free up current available property to ensure first time buyers from this area are not forced to move elsewhere.
