Bedhampton

Your Local Liberal Democrat Champions for Bedhampton

This year you have three great local champions to vote for in Bedhampton.

Philippa, Michael and Annie love to work together as a team. If elected, they will use their wide-ranging experience for the benefit of Bedhampton.

Annie's childhood passion was sport; she competed at county and national level. Annie brings her experience of working with local young people to the Bedhampton team. She says "These days my core beliefs are just the same as ever. I no longer play for a national team. I now have the opportunity to represent Havant lib Dem in Bedhampton as part of a three-person team ”.

Michael, Philippa's husband, grew up in Leigh Park and moved to Bedhampton in 1990. He loves to grow vegetables and donates his surplus produce to a local food bank. He is horrified by the growing need for food banks and wants to ensure that as much is done locally as possible to alleviate the effects of the cost of living crisis.

Philippa was elected as a Bedhampton councillor in May 2023. She want to be re-elected to continue her work to represent the community and improve our local environment.

They will combine their skills, abilities and experiences to work as a team to serve our local community in the best way possible.

MEET YOUR LOCAL CHAMPIONS

Philippa Gray is your local Liberal Democrat Councillor for the Bedhampton Ward, where she has lived for over 30 years.

Philippa says, ‘I am inspired by the way that resilient communities can work together and want to use my energy, time and experience to help make Havant and Hampshire a better place in which to live, work and relax.’

Philippa enjoys taking practical steps to build our community and relieve the impact of climate change. She is an accredited Green Liberal Democrat, volunteers at Repair Café Havant and Solent Cycle Project and supports Havant Friends of the Earth and Havant Climate Alliance. Philippa is retired from work as an IT project manager but now works hard and uses her skills as a trustee of Bedhampton Community Centre and a director of Solent Remade Community Interest Company.

In her free time, Philippa loves growing and cooking vegetables, being a member of Havant U3A, trying to crochet and reading books.

Michael was born in Portsmouth, his family moved to Leigh Park from Eastney when he was very young. Later they all moved to Bedhampton. Michael went to Stockheath, Oak Park and Havant Grammar schools. He went on to study at The Polytechnic of Wales and Teesside Polytechnic graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics.

Once he returned from his studies, Michael purchased his first home in Rowlands Castle and married Philippa Gray in 1983. In 1990 they moved to Bedhampton and have lived here ever since.

He worked for West Sussex County Council as a software developer and project manager until retirement.

Michael enjoys cooking, bird watching, gardening, canal holidays and volunteering on a steam railway in Wales. He is a proud allotment holder and donates his surplus produce to a local food bank.

Michael is a liberal because he believes society must be underpinned by fairness and a well-managed economy. He has always voted Lib Dem, through their various reincarnations, from the age of eighteen in both national and local elections.

Michael has worked behind the scenes, supporting Philippa in her campaigns to get her elected to Havant Borough Council. He was pleasantly surprised to find that he enjoyed it so much that he has decided to become a candidate himself.

Locally, Michael will work for better infrastructure in our area and better support for our natural environment.

Annie has lived in the area since she moved here from London 23 years ago.

Annie loves sports, especially football. She has been involved at a local level with Linvoy Primus and Mickey Mellows in the ‘Faith & Football’ programmes. She has worked with young people in Leigh Park for many years. Annie says, “I have worked with young people; I have seen the effects Covid has had on their mental health, and I am very concerned because they are our future”.

Annie has a passion for helping the community and has been a Havant Volunteer of the Year on more than one occasion.

Locally, Annie would like to see more facilities made available for our young people and wants to revitalise the community spirit evident during the pandemic.
