Changes to the Law

In December 2022, the UK Government introduced changed to how we can vote across the UK.

Whilst Northern Ireland had been using Voter ID for some time, previously in England, Scotland and Wales, ID was not required in order to cast your vote.

Despite objections from the Liberal Democrats, in both the House of Commons and in the House of Lords, the legislation was put through.

In the elections held across our country on 4th May 2023, over 14,000 people could not vote.

If you intend to vote in person, you will now need a form of Voter ID. This will have a photo of you on it.
