This year you have three great local champions to vote for in Hayling West.
Paul and the Hayling Liberal Democrats team has been a revelation to thousands of Islanders who had gotten used to the same old Conservative complacency.
Since being elected, Paul has challenged the complacent Conservatives on issues as diverse as sewage to sorting out the grass verges, and has forced Havant Borough Council to take Hayling residents more seriously.
Our vision for the Island is laid out in more detail in our Ten Point Action Plan, but our consistent theme is putting our local community first.
Our Island really is the jewel in the Havant Borough crown, and Hayling Liberal Democrats will always recognise and protect it for now and for future generations.
I’m Wilf Forrow, and I’ve lived on Hayling for nearly 50 years. You may know me from events around the island, or my Cycle Hayling columns in the Hayling Herald, or the Paris to Hayling Cycle Ride, or maybe from my 15 years as a Hayling Scout Leader.
I’m angry at the ongoing damage the Conservative Council is letting happen to our island – the over-development, the traffic, the loss of West Beach and the revenue-earning car park, the sewage, and the environmental damage.
I see it through my committee role on HIRA, Hayling Island Residents Association, my environmental work with Havant Climate Alliance and Friends of the Earth, and my cycle campaigning.
My work in professional IT services taught me the importance of a business-like approach, but that you can’t just outsource all public services to business and hope for the best.
I demand a Fair Deal for Hayling.
Many of you will know Paul from his numerous contributions to our local community, but for those of you who don’t know him, Paul lives on the island, grew up on the island, and is passionate about the island. Quite simply, for Paul, Hayling is and always has been the place he calls home.
After many years of contributing to the community, Paul was sick and tired of seeing our beautiful island being run into the ground, so decided it was time to act. He feels we’ve been utterly failed by a complacent local council which doesn’t put the needs of us residents first.
The people of Hayling have been so patient, but enough is enough.
Jonathan Hulls is standing as one of the three Havant Borough Council Liberal Democrat candidates in Hayling West.
Jonathan has lived on Hayling Island for 16 years and for the last 7, has run a successful local business on the Island. As part of the local Search & Rescue Team for over 10 years, Jonathan is fully committed to the local community and also runs a pet food bank, for those in need to ensure they don’t have to give up their much-loved furry friends.
Jonathan has championed the fight against over development and continues to challenge the big developers on the Island, representing local residents on the Sinah Lane Liaison Committee. His background and previous career in Project Management and Development has been invaluable in this endeavour.
As a sailor, Jonathan is appalled and angry by the shear amount of sewage being pumped into our harbours by Southern Water and has experienced first-hand the illness it can cause!
All Islanders are angry and upset by the debacle at West Beach. This is the premier spot on the South Coast for board sports, which the Tories have allowed to be ruined by their poor decision making.
As a lifelong Conservative voter, Jonathan had become disillusioned with the inaction and ineptitude of the current administration and for the first time voted Liberal Democrat last year. The monumental change having Paul Gray fighting our corner on the Island has been a game changer and given the voters a voice.
We need a strong voice on the Island to ensure we are heard and not ignored, as we have been for the last 20 years. If elected Jonathan will fight for you to ensure the Island does not become overdeveloped, sewage polluters are held to account and sea defences are dealt with in a proper reasoned way, with a view to the future not a quick fix today.
A Garden Poster is a great way to let people know that you support us and to remind people that the elections are happening soon. If you would like one.
