At the end of February, local members overwhelmingly selected GAYATHRI SATHYANATH to be the Liberal Democrat candidate in the Parliamentary election for Havant Constituency which will be held this year.

Gayathri Sathyanath

We are all delighted that Gayathri has been chosen to lead our fight locally against the Conservatives, who spend much time fighting among themselves. Gayathri has considerable experience in local politics in nearby Fareham, and is passionate about working for a fairer deal for our local communities, better provision for those waiting for operations or to be seen in A & E, as well as improved recruitment of doctors and nurses. The wife of a Gosport GP, and mother of a junior doctor currently working in Southampton, she can see at first hand the strain our NHS workforce is under. She has also noted the failing infrastructure in our constituency, with houses packed into every spare plot, causing traffic chaos, overcrowded schools and struggling GP practices, as well as the lack of NHS dentists. With her background in Biology and Environmental Science, she shares our horror at the sewage scandal spoiling our beautiful harbours.

Faith Ponsonby, Local Party Chair

In the time we have before the General Election, I will be out and about meeting people, visiting local schools, shops and companies in the area. I can see that there is much that needs to be improved in Havant, after over 25 years of Tory domination in this area. I would be happy to visit local community groups and hear from them about problems they face.
