Local Elections in 2024

On Thursday 2nd May 2024, all the council seats for Havant Borough Council are up for re-election. Everyone will have the opportunity to vote for three people to represent them at council.

Why?

The Electoral Commission has been redrawing all the ward borders in our borough. This is to take account of the population growth, new estates that have been built and some potential plans for the near future. All this means that things are changing across our borough. All the Councillors, in all seats, will have to stand down and, those who want to, stand for re-election.

The New Look

As a part of these changes, four of the wards, which have two seats each, are merging into two wards, with three seats each. These are the ones which covered Leigh Park, The Warren and West Leigh.

All this means that instead of having 38 seats on the council, we will have 36 seats. That’s three in each of the 12 wards.

Going forward, it also means that everyone will be invited to vote for someone each time we have a local election in the future. Until now, those in Leigh Park, The Warren and West Leigh had a quiet year.

Canvassing team

We need YOU!

More than ever, your local Lib Dem team needs you!

We are recruiting now. Whether you can help by volunteering a couple of hours a week or by donating a little money to our party, it all helps.

There are many different voluntary jobs. They each need doing.

Whether it is addressing envelopes, delivering the leaflets, helping to run a social event, helping to raise funds for our local party, preparing literature, producing content for social media, helping by canvassing or perhaps standing for election as a Liberal Democrat Candidate, if this interests you, do get in touch.

How are we different?

As Liberal Democrats, we have shared values and aims to achieve equality of opportunity. Members give recognition and show respect for others in the party and our society regardless of age, race, gender, disability, marital or civil partnership status, religion or belief, gender history or sexual orientation. All members have a chance to contribute to party ideas and together, improve our society.

Benefits of Lib Dem Membership

Being a member of the Liberal Democrats has many benefits. Some of these include:

  1. Members choose who their candidate for election will be, both for local elections and for Parliament
  2. Members make policy. Unlike the other major parties, Lib Dems don't impose policy on members, rather the members debate and vote on policy at Conference
  3. Only members can stand for election as Liberal Democrats
  4. Members get to vote for who the Party Leader is
  5. Being a member makes you part of our Lib Dem family - social events, training, campaigning together, a sense of belonging

Our plan for a
fair deal.
