This year you have two wonderful champions to vote for in Leigh Park Central & West Leigh.
Both Glenda Dunford and Jo Lowe are two local people who are passionate about our local community. They have lived in the area for many years now and have contributed much for the local residents.
If elected, they will take this passion to the council and represent your views and make your voices heard.
Many residents tell us that they are ready for a change and will vote Lib Dem. With all three seats in our new ward up for election this year, this is an opportunity for real change and to show the Conservative led council that you want something better for the community.
If elected, both Glenda and Jo will work together, along with the Lib Dem team in council, to help hold the conservative to account and ensure that your voices are not only heard, but your views matter and need to be represented.
MEET YOUR LOCAL CHAMPIONS
Glenda Dunford has lived in Leigh Park for nearly 23 years. During this time, she worked in the defence industry.
She plays the violin, piano and cornet and is the Chairman of Leigh Park Community Singers. Glenda is also involved with the Havant Music Festival to bring local music to the community.
Recently Glenda has become the Chairman of the Homewell Practice Patient Participation Group (PPG) so she is very interested in the support/treatment patients receive and if it can be improved by communicating issues raised back to the surgery.
She would like to help the young people in the community. Although there are plenty of parks, not everyone is into football and she would like to improve the options available for them.
Regeneration of the shopping areas is an important issue for the residents of Leigh Park and it would be nice to see a market reintroduced in Park Parade and Greywell.
Ongoing issues with Southern Water and Portsmouth Water regarding the reservoir and the recycled waste water need to be addressed. Portsmouth Water plans to build a huge pipeline through Leigh Park from the new reservoir to their site off West Street. If elected, I would help to strengthen the work which the Lib Dem councillors have been doing to ensure that the expected disruption is minimised.
Jo Lowe has been married to her husband for over 20 years. Together they have raised two children who are now teenagers. They have lived in Leigh Park for over 20 years.
Jo can be found selling the programmes for Portsmouth FC during the football season. She also sings and performs with the Leigh Park Community Singers.
Every Christmas Jo joins with the Leigh Park and Warren Park Community panto players. They all work hard and enjoy putting on a show for our community and is well attended with friends and families too.
Jo is a partner of a local shop in Leigh Park Shopping Centre. This gives her first hand knowledge of what it is like in the area and gives her a good insight for what is needed to help improve the shopping precinct.
Jo has previously served on the council in Battins Ward. She has gained a lot of knowledge and was able to make a few changes when she was one of the two people who were elected as non-Conservative councillors in a council that was otherwise dominated by them.
With a strong Lib Dem team, beside her, Jo now feels even more prepared and motivated to get back so that she can help the residents in our area in any way that she can and make sure their voices are heard.
